DETROIT -- The first images of what appear to be Ford Motor Co.’s U.S.-bound Ranger compact pickup have been spotted testing on roads in Dearborn, Mich.
Spy art shows a heavily camouflaged small truck that looks similar to the Ranger currently offered in a number of global markets, including Australia.
Ford has been mum on Ranger details since confirming plans to bring it back at the 2017 Detroit auto show.
Reports say the mid-size truck could get Ford’s four-cylinder and six-cylinder EcoBoost engines, as well as a potential diesel variant. Ford is expected to offer Ranger with the 10-speed automatic transmission it co-developed with General Motors and has been rolling out across its lineup.
It’s expected to get … more
Richard Overton is the oldest living U.S. military veteran in the world, but don’t think having a DOB of 1906 on his driver’s license means he can’t still enjoy the rumble of a great American V8, because Overton still drives his late 1970s Ford truck. Like a boss.
I’m sure some people find the idea of a 110-year-old person driving a car rather frightening, especially after you read stories of people 30 years Overton’s junior getting into nasty avoidable accidents.
Instead, I’m just going to marvel at this centenarian’s lifelong love for cars. In the short National Geographic documentary, Overton, of Austin, Texas, mentions automobiles a number of times, recalling the first … more
The Henrik Fisker-designed, Ford Mustang-based Galpin Rocket that made its debut at the 2014 Los Angeles International Auto Show has been renamed the “VLF Rocket V8,” reflecting the fact that production will now be handled by Michigan-based car company VLF Automotive.
VLF takes its name from its three founders: Gilbert Villarreal, Bob Lutz, and Henrik Fisker. The company’s past works include an LS-powered version of the Fisker Karma named “Destino,” and a Viper-based supercar dubbed the “Force 1.”
The VLF Rocket V8 is a current-generation Ford Mustang GT underneath, with a stunning carbon-fiber body designed by Fisker and built by Metalcrafters, Inc. Its supercharged … more

Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire was bumped up the list and is numero uno in line to get the 2016 Ford Focus RS in L.A. (Not to be confused with VIN #1)
You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours is a modus operandi that oftentimes works wonders in the greater automotive community and seems to be paying off for Drive host and all around good guy Matt Farah. According to a Facebook post late last night ( Oct. 13, 2015) Farah triumphantly announced that he’ll be the first person in all of Los Angeles (and possibly the greater Southern California area) to receive the fire-breathing 2016 Ford Focus RS. Supposedly the order banks are open for this much anticipated hot hatch and Farah’s order was placed. What makes this … more

Ford redesigned its midsize SUV this year, and along with fresh styling and more safety features, the 2015 Edge earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The two-row SUV received the top score of good in moderate overlap front, side, roof-strength and head restraint tests and achieved the second-best rating of acceptable in the difficult small front overlap crash test.
The previous-generation Edge also got good scores in moderate overlap front, side, roof-strength and head restraint tests, but was precluded from achieving the Top Safety Pick award because it had not yet undergone the small front overlap test.
To get the IIHS' highest safety rating, Top … more

The all-new Ford Mustang is selling briskly – 86,769 deliveries through August and clobbering the soon-to-be-replaced Chevy Camaro. So what better time than the present to capitalize on the mystique of the reskinned Mustang?
Earlier this year, Galpin Auto Sports and Danish designer Henrik Fisker began low-volume production in California of a coach-built, heavily modified version of the new Mustang, dubbed The Rocket.
With a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic body crafted by hand at GFMI Metalcrafters in Fountain Valley, as well as significant interior and suspension upgrades, the Rocket is a 4-passenger coupe with a starting price of $109,100.

Yes, the Galpin Fisker Ford Mustang Rocket has a long name. “We just call it ‘the Rocket’” said Henrik Fisker, who also designed the BMW Z8, Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage, and more recently, the Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid.
Certainly, “Rocket” is a suitable name for a $109,100 muscle car, but the fact of the matter is that the other named parties have made great contributions, including its builders and tuners, Galpin Auto Sports of Van Nuys, Calif., and of course, Ford itself. We took a brief spin along 17-Mile Drive during Monterey Car Week to see if it’s worth the coin.

The last time Henrik Fisker designed a convertible, it was a sleek, plug-in hybrid called the Karma Sunset hat never saw the light of day. His latest likely has a brighter future.
The Rocket Speedster is a customized Ford Mustang that Fisker penned for Galpin Auto Sports, of “Pimp My Ride” fame. It’s a follow-up to the $125,000 Rocket coupe the collaborators launched last year.
Inspired by the 1968 Ford Shelby GT500 -- a Fisker favorite -- the wide-body Rocket Speedster features an oversize grille with integrated fog lamps, huge air intakes on its carbon fiber hood, and side scoops on the rear fenders to help cool the 15-inch Brembo brakes tucked inside of its 21-inch wheels. It should be … more

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- Henrik Fisker, who created a plug-in car company that ended up in bankruptcy court, is looking to start a new venture.
Fisker, an auto designer whose Fisker Automotive rose about the same time as Tesla Motors, says the timing is right for something completely new. While he doesn't get specific, he says he's intrigued with Milliennials, their craving for new kinds of transportation and their fascination with all things digital.
"I'm looking into starting a new company," he said Saturday at the unveiling a new customized Ford Mustang venture as a prelude to Sunday's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance here.
"There's a whole new group of young people ready for the next thing," he says, … more
